The Sound of Night
-Linda Lee Lyberg
Listen to the whisper of crisp autumn leaves
Where by design, He magnificently weaves
An aria of sweet music for the weary soul
Void of silence broken as darkness slows.
And in its place if you patiently wait
The crickets sing their hopeful tune
As the sun at last accepts its fate
And succumbs to the will of the moon.
For Mother Moon rules the night
With her beauty and infinite grace
As night birds take intrepid flight
And timid mice scurry, then race.
The night begins its bloodless birth
With an orchestra of nature’s sounds
As the wolves howl with glee and mirth
Twilight’s lilting music abounds.
