Shrouded in lies and mystery
How did you and my mother meet?
What is my true family history?
Did you sweep her off her feet?
What made her fall for a man like you?
Was she too sheltered and naive?
A man who was funny, told a joke or two
Did she not see the mask worn to deceive?
Did her lonely heart with your kiss begin to race?
When you smiled was her world brighter?
Was all she saw your handsome face?
When you took her hand, her step lighter?
Now you are gone and so is she
Am I forever left in the dark?
How I came to be, not for me to see
What started this whole fateful lark?

Such kindness- Thank you Walt. I seem to have a lot of those “unanswered questions” in my life. I’m okay- waves of feelings.

Questions… questions…who will now provide the answers?

Sadly, no one.

One can imagine various answers to these questions. Perhaps having them at all is what matters.

Wow, wonderfully written. I have found myself wondering similar, difficult questions that may never have answers (or the answers that we want). Thank you for sharing!

These are questions we will never get answers too… yet they are so fundamental to our whole existence

My wish is that you come to peace with the questions, and know that you have great value in spite of them. Your poem is touching and beautifully written.

Oh this was so special! Now shrouded in mystery? No other relatives to question?
Great post. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Chuck. Unfortunately, none. My mother outlived her family and my father the same.

That we will never be able to ask the question is perhaps the hardest thing. My heart pains for your loss.
I know that my mother and father had so many stories to tell. When I was young, I promised myself to record them. But somehow, life always managed to get in the way and those tales faded out of existence. However, they were married to each other for 60+ years and had 15 children. So, in my case, perhaps some question do not need answers.
