Opal Child
-Linda Lee Lyberg
Born under a waxing moon
With a fiery spirit in her eyes
One look, her daddy swooned
When he heard his baby’s cry.
As he laid his eyes upon her
He chose her first name
In Spanish, it means beautiful
And so he did proclaim.
His hopes for her were high
He knew she was born from love
As he listened to her tiny cries
He asked of God above.
Please keep her safe from harm
When I cannot be there
Protecting her in your arms
Ease her worries and cares.
She is my opalescent child
Her spirit shining bright
Please dear God, give her smiles
And hold her in your light.

I like the phrase “opalescent child” and the prayer to keep her safe when he no longer can.

This is so so beautiful. I truly believe that newborn children are all beautiful in their parents’ eyes…but this …. almost an ode to your father upon your birth….and the line “She is my opalescent child” so very touching in its love and hope and joy. Wonderful post!
