Late Nite Paris

Strolling along the River Seine
amid shimmering puddles of
rain soaked leaves
marveling we are here
in this city that never sleeps.

We saunter along the Pont Neuf
fascinated by who walked before us
as an old woman blows giant bubbles
children racing, voices in chorus
singing love songs to couples cuddled.

Stepping under a striped awning
of a quaint sidewalk cafe
we take our leave at a tiny round
to watch the world go by
drinking wine to the city sounds.

Ah Paris, I am in love with you
from Mona Lisa to Venus de Milo
such amazing history to walk, to see
as I listen to voices in lilting French
I want to live here with you eternally.

  1. Aw! This is a tender love poem to a city. Reading this out loud I am charmed by the soft sounds of your words whispered in my ear. Lovely! Glad you shared this with us 🙂

  2. Coincidence. I was sat outside that place about 10 years ago – a kid at the time – when the police nicked a bloke driving up the street in the wrong direction. I think he’d drunk more wine than he should have. Paris is something special. Nice one.

  3. You’ve captured the flavour of Paris, Linda, which I tasted as I read.I love the ‘shimmering puddles of / rain soaked leaves’ and the ‘striped awning / of a quaint sidewalk cafe’.

  4. Wonderful nostalgia, Linda! You reminded me of my own nighttime stroll through Paris, in April 1992, while on spring holiday during my semester in London. What wonderous sights to see in the Bohemian Quarter after dark! 🙂
