The Light of Youth

The Reflection, Edward Emerson Simmons
When she looks in the mirror, she sees the girl
like a bright beacon of light from within
with rosy cheeks, and bouncing red curls
and a body that was willow switch thin.

A sweet child with not a care in the world
who chased blue butterflies every day
with a longing to have wings to unfurl
so she could soar high in the sky and away.

Now her hair, shot with shades of grey
she lumbers whilst carrying the weight
of sorrows from lost love’s battle scars
that forever sealed her aloneness fate.

Each day she sits, and peers into the aged clouded mirror
yearning to relive her youth when life was much clearer.

  1. Hi Linda, thanks for adding to this week’s tale weaver. Its the fate of us all isn’t it growing older, grey hair, no hair, and not being able to do much about it, other than remember.
