#Tanka: Swamp

In this dreary swamp

where the mysterious keens

while river toads croon

to the song of dripping rain

green moss grows on barren trees.

I love the photo. It packs such a variety of feelings including a touch of fear. After reading the verses I looked at the picture again searching for the toads I heard. Oddly, I didn’t hear the dripping rain so it didn’t matter that it wasn’t raining in the picture. I wanted to see the toads!
