When Love Wanes
Love rode in on a cold winter’s wind and
stayed through the months of spring,
but once the honey moon waxed and waned,
love knew it was time to move on again.
And as it hastened with sure footsteps,
walking out the door of her heart,
she knew the faceless one had come
from memories of a time long gone
as it once was and now is anew,
a love doomed from the start,
and it broke her bruised heart
knowing it would never last.
So she drinks the dense wine as the setting sun
plays with mottled light in the darkening room
remembering a time when the wine was fine
as she drank the hidden poison of love’s bloom
and now with regret, sits with her choices and
the ghosts of the past in the deepening gloom.
