The Path

And when she arises from her watery grave,
in a smoky swirl above the calm frigid lake
she walks with him along a familiar trodden path,
feeling his heavy sadness and hot bitter wrath
for being forsaken.

She reaches out to comfort his broken lonely soul
but he cannot feel her, for her touch now cold
as she sees his tears spill, she catches them in her hands
drinking in his essence, willing him to understand
why she was taken.

In spirit she is still here walking by his side
but God chose her to take and so they must abide
but when he sees morning mist rising from the shallows
it is her blowing a kiss and bidding him a fond hello
hoping to reawaken.

  1. Wow, beautiful poem, Linda. For some reason it reminds me of Yeats, not sure if there is a poem with a familiar theme in his work? Nevertheless, well done and a powerful exploration of Beth’s prompt. I think she will be happy with the results! Thank you Barista! Stephen
