If You Should

metal-3650099_1280

And if you should forget me I’ll be the whispering wind
calling to you from across the sea caressing fragrant skin

And if that fails my darling I’ll take swift hastened flight
and be the star struck Thrush crooning long into the night

And if you see my face when you look at the waxing moon
does a vague memory come of our love, lost all too soon

And if you mourn for the rose bloom fading in dying light
does your heart tremble, remembering that ill fated night

And if you should recall anything at all, these lips you once kissed
know they now are bitter cold and turned to stone
in the daunting gray mist…
as they ache among the ashes of your remembrance.

I liked this bit in particular: “I’ll take swift hastened flight/and be the star struck Thrush crooning long into the night”.

  3. So romantic, Linda. I especially love the lines:
‘And if you see my face when you look at the waxing moon
does a vague memory come of our love, lost all too soon’
    and
‘know they now are bitter cold and turned to stone
    in the daunting gray mist…
as they ache among the ashes of your remembrance’.
