Kindness is the Soft Trod Footsteps

Kindness is the soft trod
footsteps through the wildflowers
the song of the mockingbird
singing the brilliant sun awake
while the rest of the world sleeps

It is the planting of greens
and all colorful hues of the rainbow
when spring comes to provide a home
and food for butterflies, birds, and bees

It is the reverence for every living thing
a respect if you will, for the smallest
creatures to the largest of beasts,
the understanding of natures rhythm

Kindness is the soft trod footsteps
on this incredible earth, our mother.

  1. Remembering to spread kindness throughout the biodiversity of our environments. With the “soft trod” I get the feeling of whispering. How still and beautiful.

  2. It is so sad that our leaders don’t understand this attitude. As you say, we are reminded every day by nature all around us. Very well done Linda.

  3. Kindness is…” could be a dVerse prompt in itself. You have touched a point that needs to be stimulated; like love, there isn’t enough kindness in this world of chaos.

  4. Sadly mankind is not soft trodden and is enemy to all other living things on Earth. The lessons we learn from our mistakes are not acted upon all the while big corporations and investors are blind the damage they are doing. I feel like a small insect powerless, waiting to be trodden on.But being a poet we must scream out loud with our words which you have done so beautifully.

    • Thank you for your thoughtful words. I have that feeling at times as well. But if I make a difference for at least one creature, then I have to believe that matters.

  6. Oh! Those soft trod footsteps with a reverence and love for all the beautiful things nature has offered to us can be such amazing incidences of kindness. To be respectful towards all the creatures, big and small, is something we need right now on a wider scale. Very well penned, Linda!
