Before You Go

Before you go, you should know
I never expected you to be the one
to lay my soul bare, leave me undone
drive a spike through my lovestruck heart
an abysmal gaping hole where nothing will grow
but black thoughts trembling in the dark.

  2. Linda, you’ve filled this quadrille with despair, especially in the lines:
‘drive a spike through my lovestruck heart
an abysmal gaping hole where nothing will grow
but black thoughts trembling in the dark’.

  3. Hopefully the dark piece is fiction, cuz it packs a real emotional punch; kudos and hugs. One small thing–I think you fell into the lay/lie trap. An English teacher once told me, “Remember, chickens lay, people lie.” smile. Grammar can befuddle you. I still can’t get used to “we boys”.

    • I found this via Merriam Webster: Definition of Lay Bare: to reveal or uncover private information or feelings He laid bare his soul. The book is an attempt to lay bare the secrets of this very powerful political family.

  4. Oh this is beautifully evocative…❤️ makes me wonder .. you don’t hurt the ones you don’t love.. it’s perhaps human nature to make mistakes …
