Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
I can tell you I spend my days talking to the singing birds or
conversing with my little dog, who understands every word
My neighbors know nothing of me or what’s churning in my heart
I doubt they know my name, much less my poetic arts
When you say to someone ‘I’m a poet’, they look at you and stare
as if you are an abstract human with horns and flaming hair
And so I have no words to say, because I know there’s little use
unless you are a passionate writer, you have no heavenly clue
So a toast to all my comrade poets, my artistic moon dreamers
who soar among celestial stars for we are the magic reapers

I had originally written ‘neighbor’ in place of ‘comrade’, but didn’t want to overuse the word. 🙂

Ah, the magic reapers. So beautiful. Yes, it is lovely to find a whole community of poets to commune with. My family regards my poetry writing as some weird and slightly embarrassing peculiarity. LOL. They avert their eyes and try not to think about it. Hee hee.

Awwwww gosh ❤️ this is soo heartfelt! I feel you when you say they look at us like “an abstract human with horns and flaming hair,” .. yes they don’t understand … in fact nobody without a sensitive heart and love for the written word can. Remember .. you are loved! ❤️

Lol. Well you know I am always fighting with followers telling them I am not a poet. But face to face I tell everyone I am a poet.

Oh, Linda! This is so beautiful. I loved your sweet sentiments. We are the word weavers. Look up info on the goddess Brigid. She was the first poetess and you will love her mythology. ❤

Curiously Australian don’t think this way about poets for when first colonised many immigrants felt the need to put pen to paper and scribble down their feelings about the country they found themselves in. These were known as the Bush poets who waxed lyrical about the flora, fauna and difficulties and loves of their new land. It is great to be part of that gang.

It’s a misunderstood art at times. Some of my friends change the subject when I tell them what I do. I guess they’re afraid I’ll impose a poem on them. But others do support me. Enjoyed your poem.

Thank you so much I’ve had that happen as well. And while my husband may not understand my poems all the time, he is my staunchest supporter.

I chat to my cats, Linda, and I agree that neighbours know nothing of what’s churning in our hearts, which is why we’re members of this friendly neighbourhood of poets. I love being a magic reaper!.
