When the Wind Moves

Morning In Mesa AZ

When the wind moves through trees on my morning stroll
I hear the breeze calling, a longing within my soul
‘Come, write what you hear me playing, let the words
float free like I do on a brisk sunny day.’

When I’m in my sacred garden down on my knees
with yearning fingers caressing lush fertile earth
I watch playful geckos dancing on the garden wall,
and in their graceful moves a poem will emerge.

When the mockingbird sings high in the lone tree,
I know he sings not at all for me, but still-
what bliss to revel in his elusive melody
and while away hours listening to his trill.

In these simple tasks I’m dreaming my life away
my mind is always swirling with stanzas unfurling
as I waltz to a symphony of music always playing
in my grateful poet’s heart on a fine spring day.

  1. your last line wraps up the feeling you created so lovingly from the start, a grateful heart, that is the missing ingredient in our lives, just being humbly grateful for all we are blessed with, a most enlightening poem Linda. you walk through life with quiet sensitivity and it shows in your poetry.

  2. Such a beautiful poem. You took me back to my days, on my knees in the garden, growing veggies and fruit for my kids………good years. Sigh. Enjoy that garden! Now I have a few pots on my deck, and am content with that. But it isnt the same as having a real garden as I did all those years.

  3. I like the thought of dreaming one’s life away in simple tasks and these lines: “I watch playful geckos dancing on the garden wall,
and in their graceful moves a poem will emerge.”

  4. Come, write what you hear me playing reminded me that I used to beg for her to write her piano composure down. Her reply is that a recording is sufficient, even to obtain an on paper patent. She ‘writes’ music for segments or entire books of the Bible and recites and plays it all from memory.

I just love that line. It’s such a celebratory piece, but that’s the key line for me – we enjoy nature even though it’s not aimed at us. Beautiful.

  7. Let the words float free…I like this very much. And how lovely to be waltzing to a symphony of music playing in your grateful heart.

in my grateful poet’s heart on a fine spring day.”
