Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
“I don’t see the desert as barren at all; I see it as full and ripe. It doesn’t need to be flattered with rain. It certainly needs rain, but it does with what it has, and creates amazing beauty.” – Joy Harjo
Jacarandas rise high in the crystal blue sky
swaying in the whispering spring breeze
creating a storm of aubergine rain
falling onto damp emerald green.
Too soon will come the brutal desert sun
shimmering, dancing in blue waves of heat
when the thick burnt toast air is still, never stirs
unless a monsoon is coming from the Southeast.

“Jacarandas rise high in the crystal blue sky/swaying in the whispering spring breeze,”.. My goodness that is such a breathtakingly beautiful image! ❤️ I have never seen them up close but your poem makes me visualize them perfectly! I am aware of that brutal desert sun and long for monsoon when the time comes. Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt! 😍😍

I like this, Linda. It reminds me of the five Army years that lived in El Paso and rode my Vespa 32 miles through the desert to work which was near Hueco Tanks (google that). Lots of sage, cactus, and desert flowers.

I like how you’ve kept the idea of color and rain, even in the “brutal” summer.
