Evening Dreams

Evening in the Garden: Mesa, AZ

A bottle of red wine shared in the evening
while sitting in our garden of Eden,
nibbling on tiny morsels of pungent cheese
as we murmur our hopes and dreams
sharing with each other in the sultry breeze

The air is heavy with the scent of herbs,
rosemary, thyme, oregano and mint
the lavender is blooming, weaving a hint
of its fragrant essence with the damp earth
while the roses are wilting and fading
with the coming of summer’s heat

The birds are singing from high in the mesquite
bright orange- red sun is sinking low and though
the obsidian night is coming, I want to savor peace
cherishing these tender moments, with eyes closed
creating watercolor memories for when we are old

  1. This is absolutely breathtaking, Linda! ❤️ You paint such a lovely scene 😀 especially love and resonate with; “and though the obsidian night is coming, I want to savor peace cherishing these tender moments.”❤️

  2. A picnic at sunset – wine and cheese. Can anything be more perfect sharing with a loved one?
“the obsidian night is coming, I want to savor peace” Perfection. Thanks for posting to my prompt.

  3. A wonderful write, indeed, L. I was there. (What more can a poem ask, eh?) A friendly (non-critical) editorial note: no apostrophe required in Line 9. Well done! Salute!

    • Arghh! Thank for that call out Ron-LOL. Those darn apostrophes trip me up from time to time. Corrected. And FYI- I always approve all comments so you may not show up immediately.
