When Pink Fish Fly

He rides his wooden horse to nowhere
the boy who would be king of kings
sitting alone in the shadowed room
dreaming his fanciful dreams.
And in his dreams he sees her as she is now
a delicate woman-child with ruby-red wings
embracing her innate gifts as she learns
to soar high in the windswept azure sky.
Now, she walks her destiny’s path in peace
with her fantastical thoughts as her guide
Letting her pen upon the blank white paper
take her in her dreams on the wildest ride
where even the fattest of pink fish can fly.
She leaves the handsome troubled boy at last
with all the bitter heartache and wrenching grief
Now he is naught but a part of a tear-stained past
who sought to rob her of life, like a petty thief.

Your ending says it all if it isn’t real love than love stinks. There is a tarot deck where there are two fish on The Lovers card in a paisley like fashion. I have often thought of how wondrous love can be, but when it isn’t-it really rots. I love how you described the woman-child: “embracing her innate gifts as she learns to soar high in the windswept azure sky.” Bluetiful to read your innate gift!
