Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
I am a cage in search of a bird
a bird with wings, a voice to sing
upon my gold perch it will swing
though this bird must be softly furred,
Not feathered like the common herd
but fuzzy purple, fit for kings
around it’s neck three magic rings
so it meows like a cat-bird.

Amaya is hosting Poetics tonight at dVerse and has asked us to pick a Franz Kafka quote from the list provided and write a children’s story or poem. This is the quote I chose: “I am a cage, in search of a bird.” from The Blue Octavo Notebooks
Oh … what a pretty bird that would be… maybe one that put a bell around the neck of the cat.

That’s a really interesting rhyme scheme – so simple and yet unexpected. I like your cat-bird idea. I think we had the same interior designer for our cages…

I This is a treat to read, Linda, especially the lines:
‘Not feathered like the common herd
but fuzzy purple, fit for kings
around its neck three magic rings
so it meows like a cat-bird.’

I like the rhyme and think that a catbird is ingenious. I wonder what it would sound like.

I like the photoshop, where the kitten is so much bigger than the macaw, at least in the mind of the kitten. Great visuals that kids love to imagine.

You’ve spiked my imagination, flying fish are fish birds, flying monkeys, squirrels and bats, all furry with a jones for your cage.
