My Fervent Hope

“Death twitches my ear;

‘Live,’ he says…

‘I’m coming.”

― Virgil

And should spirit
move within me,
decide to take my soul
my fervent hope
for what I find
in the unknown
are those I’ve lost
who will greet
and welcome me home
The people I’ve loved,
and all my pets
waiting to say hello.

  1. The afterlife of the Middle Ages has been replaced by a gentler version. I’m a bit more Zen these days, but Soul still hopes that Spirit is not a trickster.

  2. I did years of hospice care and people often see those they love waiting for them at the end … happened too often to allow any doubt in my mind 🙂

  3. It would be wonderful to transition into waiting arms of those we’ve loved who’ve preceded us in death. A beautiful sentiment and response to the prompt.
    Apologies for the late reading!

  4. Thank you very much for this great post! I really enjoyed reading it! I have recently published an article on the importance of hope and it’s role within society. If you have time, it would be great if you could check it out and let me know your thoughts! Thanks 🙂
