Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
Cathedral morning arises with solitude its only companion
As a lone white crowned sparrow sings in blushed rose dawn
Waiting and listening for the yellow canary
Whose wistful voice breaks, imprisoned in a gilded cage
The sparrow free, dreams of the divine balance
And the gifts offered to the caged bird
A carefree life, a safe place to rest,
Never fearing the fierce hawk’s talons
But the canary trapped, yearns for liberty,
To soar in a turquoise cloud swept sky,
Cool wind ruffling feathers, flying free
Embracing the thrill of a new morning,
Wondering if indeed it will be — its last.

Sounds like a communing of avian empathy for each other’s place in the world. A microcosm of the macrocosm to ponder…

I was immediately captivated by the descriptions in your opening lines.. The two birds, one caged one free creates an archetypal dynamic which offers layers of meaning.
Thank you for writing to my Skylover Wordlist.

Whenever I read about a caged bird I think of Maya Angelou… and why it sings.
