Great Horned Owl

Juvenile Great Horned Owl on my patio
Mesa, AZ

Shift in
The universe
Change flies in on the wings
Of a Great Horned Owl as he peers
Into
My eyes, a rush of emotion
Escapes into the air
As I honor
This peace

Authors Note: This morning I had an amazing encounter with this Great Horned Owl taking a rest on my patio. Owls have deep spiritual meaning and I am so honored to have had a visit.

  1. I love how nature can bring about these profound moments.
My father put up owl boxes all over the farm to try and encourage nesting. We were lucky enough to have owls in the area so the boxes did get a bit of use.

  3. Excellent encounter and poetic capture. Here in the NW, our native Americans believe that if you hear an owl call your name, it is your death day.

  4. Ah, Linda, this is so awesome. You have captured the experience so precisely that I feel I was there, too. These words, “a rush of emotion
    Escapes into the air
As I honor” are purely a gift. Great photo, too! Did you have to rush off for your camera, and did the owl wait?

    • Thank you Victoria. I always carry my iPhone with me due to my heart issues in case I need to call for help. So, I used it to take the photo. Thank you!

  6. Wow! That is an amazing close encounter. Wonderful to share it with you too. It is often what makes my day, the unexpected from nature and guess we are blessed when it happens. Lovely to catch up with you and hope all well.

  7. Linda, right after we moved to AZ I had an encounter with a coyote crossing the road in front of us. He looked me right in the eye! I know how these experiences feel—spiritual! You received a precious message. ❤
