Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
“People don’t believe me when I tell them I’m a magician who makes portals to other worlds. So I tell them I’m a writer instead.”
― Genesis Quihuis
I never knew portals had wings of broken spirits
From which lessons of life would abound
What we once thought a door closed forever
Is only an opaque clouded window
Smudged with disappointments of life
Seldom do we realize we have within our power
To polish dirty glass, wipe it clean, paint a dream
On the other side of our crippling pain
And look through to see sparkling magic shine
Which is there within our clenched grasp
If we only unlock the window’s clasp

Love that opening quote. Although I’ve been writing for almost forty years, I am still surprised when others understand what I have written. And yes, I believe in the magic of which you speak, but also the need of the work it takes to keep that glass cleared.

This is a beautiful life lesson:
Seldom do we realize we have within our power
To polish dirty glass, wipe it clean, paint a dream
Thanks for the reminder of what we can do!

I love the idea of portals as wings of broken spirits, and that we can clean the glass and dream a new dream. Am thinking of your owl, hoping she is peaceful and not suffering.

Such a breath of hope, flint striking on stone, as a flame is born, and plague darkness retreats, shuffles away like cockroaches caught in the light; so good.

Where did you find that quotation, Linda, it fits the prompt and your poem so well! I love the idea that ‘a door closed forever / Is only an opaque clouded window / Smudged with disappointments of life’ and that we can clean it and start afresh.

what a powerful incantation. It does not banish crippling pain, it sees it as part of life, and the grace on the other side of that glass. Where I am right now, the driver in my divorce, this makes me cry. and hope. Life is so beautiful, despite all of it!

I love the perspective in this, Linda. And my first thought, reading “on wings of broken spirits” was of Bella, so powerfully have your kindred spirits affected me.
