And Justice for All

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” -Martin Luther King Jr

How dare I, a white woman- presume
To know how it feels in your black skin
And walk with fear as a constant companion
Reviled for your rich heritage some may not understand
Not seen for the American, the human being you are

There are those who refuse to acknowledge you or your pain
Yet the pledge of this country says “And Justice for All”
And though one evil man kneeled, eyes filled with hate
As you cried out- ‘Please, I can’t breathe’
Aren’t we all to blame for the state we are in?

When will we see your goodness, your truth
And not the shade of your skin?

  1. Thank you Linda, for these brief but very real words. I really like your opening quote because it is truth. Your poem in direct and carries a punch that can be felt deep inside. Again, I can only thank you.

  2. I am heartened by the response when police lay down their shields and talk to the crowd. The way forward is to VOTE racists out, and to extend hands of friendship. Am glad there is so much support among the marchers. Aside from the police methods, the top levels of government need to be replaced. It has never been more clear.

  3. There’s no equality, and racism, sexism, is still, very much alive today, and, being a part of this world that we live in, we are, desperate to help change it, but it takes, more than just one person to change the world, but, if we are willing to make a change, then, we’d, made this world a little bit, better, whether or not it shows…
