Summer Day to Night

summer morning shine-
wandering breeze lifting
the brim of my hat

summer afternoon-
scorching waves break still air
cicadas singing

summer evening-
stifling heat as day ends
black ravens take wing

summer midnight-
cool wind rustles treetops
an owl hunts for prey

  1. Summer poems and stifling heat top the list out here on the trail; kind of nice to not mention the pandemic, politics or the police. I, of course, mentioned all three.

  2. In spite of present times, we’re reminded of the promise of the seasons with each poem this week. Much needed respite. Thank you.

  3. You’ve captured the summer season beautifully, Linda. I especially love the wandering breeze lifting the brim of the hat – I can feel it! – and the cool wind rustling treetops. The owl is a bonus. 😊
