Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
“Dandelion wine. The words were summer on the tongue. The wine was summer caught and stoppered…sealed away for opening on a January day with snow falling fast and the sun unseen for weeks…”
― Ray Bradbury
French thyme and greek oregano
beginning to flower
in spite of brutal heat,
an oasis in my neglected garden,
a place for bees to rest and eat
’til lavender stalks bloom-
While Venus looks on, serene —
adorned in curly tendrils
of rampant snail vine

Author’s Note: No rain in sight, and my poor garden is feeling the brunt of the summer sun. We’ve been in triple digits for weeks now, and I must stay out of the heat so no mindless puttering in my place of peace.
Written for dVerse Poets Pub. It’s Quadrille Monday and the word is ‘Garden’. The pub opens at 3PM EST.
Majestic work..

You had me at Ray Bradbury, a quote from a favorite book; I love John Prine; and a beautiful poem!

Last year, my flower garden was neglected because I had 2 broken wrists. But isn’t it amazing how they can flourish anyway. I love how you express this, Linda. Be well.

That song is so very good… and I love the drowsiness of your garden… hope your evenings cool off at least… living in triple-digit heat takes a toll on you.

A beautifully written poem and indeed very majestic (as is all of your poetry, Linda!) I think we’ve all been neglecting our poor gardens. The heat is crazy and it just gets worse every year.
Anyway, such a lovely piece and take on the prompt. I enjoyed reading it!

I like the way your poem acknowledges the finer details of life, still thriving. A very pretty place. The bees are happy, so all is right with the world.

Somehow you wrung out some hope and beauty midst the heat wave. Could you not tend it early morning and dusk?

Thank you Glenn! I can on mornings before 7, but I am not always up and about so early unless I have doctor appointments, plus I try to walk my dog before the heat comes. As far as dusk, it doesn’t usually get below 100 until around 10PM.

Love your garden in words and photos. I had to smile at that purple/teal/iridescent orb on the pedestal. My father brought one of those home for my mother’s garden and she balked at putting it there. He loved it so put it right smack dab in the middle of our front yard! 🙂 I’m smiling again thinking of it. Thanks for you poem and the memories! 🙂

Wonderful… love your herb garden….especially the old iron bed frame. The video was beautiful… Nothing stays the same… summer goes and so do we and life goes on. Memories remain forever.

No rain lately here, either; and none expected til Wednesday night. So I’m out there several times a day, watering the newly-seeded lawn area (where the gigantic dietpile used to be) . Hope I don’t overtax our well..
Great write Linda! Love your serene Venus.
