Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
Aphotic dreams are colder than death
Wishes, dangerous and electric
Glimpses into beclouded illusions
Keeping the old stories replaying
In dark portals of curtain drawn memories
Long forgotten symbolic signs
Such savage dreams, a paradoxical haze
Disappearing upon awakening

I had to Google ‘aphotic’, Linda! 😊 I can believe they are colder than death and disappear upon wakening.

I love the abstract version of this… for me nightmares like these are connected to a high fever…

Well, I just learned a new word today: Aphotic. I love that, as well with the rest of this piece. Such darkness in this piece with a reference with how dreams are haunting the narrator. It’s brilliantly composed with real elements of what many can experience. Very eloquent. ❤
I'm still obsessing over this line too:
"Aphotic dreams are colder than death"
It's brilliant. Amazing piece.

I take away “below aphotic” in those fathoms below 300 feet, where the sun cannot penetrate; the absolute darkness where prehistoric blind creatures dwell .

The first line is riveting and weaves your storyline. It is indeed a mystery – disappearing once we are awake.

Love the reference to the normal waking up sequence when bad dreams disappear and we can get immediate relief. We can even try hard to make ourselves wake up into reality.sometimes.

This is so good. What really interested me was that my first thought about dreams would be that they were happy, bright, sweet, light. You’ve really subverted that here, turned it utterly upside down. Lots to reflect on.

“Savage dreams” and “dark portals” – love all the complementary angles and images, paralleling the painting. As fascinating as a dream, Linda.

Hi Linda, I’m a day late getting around to reading others work. This prompt was a little confusing for me, but you did an excellent job here. Well written. And, I learned a new word. 🙂

Though you may want to know the source of those dreams – as you say, “beclouded illusions” and “old stories” – waking from them can be a relief.
Well done, Linda.
