Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
Strolling a quiet path on an autumn day
with naught but bright song of an oriole
Brilliant plumage hidden among copper leaves
his song wafting on the halcyon breeze
This is what feeds my dog-tired soul
listening to soothing sounds of nature
the heavy thud of green acorns dropping
Ground squirrels gathering them with abandon
To live our dream, perchance to see
our forever home waiting ’round the bend
a quiet old cottage nestled among tall trees
where we will laugh and love ’til our days end

I love to think about those acorns falling… but we have those red squirrels who gathers them before they drop

Feed, quiet and copper are proving to be very popular! I love the use of sound (and lack of it): ‘quiet path’, ‘bright song of an oriole’, the ‘heavy thud of green acorns dropping’. I just shut my eyes and listened.

We do have cabins in the woods, but too few cottages; the very word conjures Britain, and molasses-thick accents, and hedgerows, and tweed hats. I really enjoyed your cottage adventure.

The sounds of nature are indeed soothing and calming. I love the ending lines of home with the loved one.
I see that we chose the same 3 words, smiles.

I love the cottage: it looks so cozy, the perfect hideaway! And the lines ‘This is what feeds my dog-tired soul /listening to soothing sounds of nature’ really resonate with me. There’s nothing more soothing.
