Without Remorse

Jackson “Jax” Lyberg

“Happiness is a warm puppy.”

― Charles M. Schulz

Best way to mend a broken heart
is to love again without remorse
from a joyful beginning
to a heartbreaking end

For a dog is love and love is a dog
Forever staying the true course
Never faltering from its divine purpose –
To teach us sacred grace
and infinite patience

To show us kindness pays
in a hundred thousandfold ways
as we look into the adoring eyes
of a new puppy’s love

Author’s Note: We recently had to say good bye to our dear pup Ricky Bobby “Bubba” of almost 15 years and it was one of the hardest things ever. We realized a few things through this heartbreak; we have lived in our home for almost 23 years and we have always had at least one dog, and our house without a dog just doesn’t feel right. So, I started looking and found a new rescue. His name is Jackson “Jax” Lyberg and he has made our tears and missing Bubba bearable. Jax is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, who will be a year old this month. He weighs 10 pounds and has boundless energy. He is, to say the least, keeping me very busy, and we are totally smitten with him. I think Bubba would approve, and would have wanted us to love another rescued dog, just as he was. And if you want to read a story about how Bubba came to live with us, here is a link: The Heart Thief
I wrote this back in 2017 when I first started writing seriously.

  2. So glad you have a new dog with you… he sounds like a wonderful guy… Given how young he is I almost imagine that he started out as one of those Corona dogs who someone took and couldn’t keep… at least here in Sweden everyone started to get any dogs they could when they had to stay at home.

  4. I’m so glad Jax has a wonderful new home! Oh yes….I as well as many others I’m sure, can connect with the pain of losing a beloved pet. They are truly a member of the family and they are also the epitome of unconditional love. I’m glad you posted this. Love the photo and dapper red plaid collar!

  6. Oh it is so hard to lose a dog and even at a grand old age for dogs. But I am sure your decision helps another dog to feel your special love and care and that is a tribute to your good friend Bubba. Our poems should be heartfelt and yours conveys so much love loss and new beginnings.
