Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
I am floating in the highest corner of a sparsely furnished room, looking down at a baby in the middle of a big bed. Covering the bed is a soft chenille bedspread in a maroon and cream color. A woman, my mother is sprawled across the bed playing with the baby, and cooing soft words of love. The baby is smiling at her, as if she understands what my mother is saying. On a spiritual level, I come to realize the baby is me. Somehow, my soul has stepped out of my tiny body and is looking down on the scene below. This is the earliest recollection I have of my childhood.
I didn’t have a happy childhood for the most part, it was one filled with chaos and discord. My mother, bless her soul, was the one constant source of joy and stability, and I never doubted her love. This unusual memory has stayed with me all my life, and is my earliest remembrance I have of us and our bond.

Wow! To have a memory of when you were a baby is amazing. My earliest memory is from when I was a little over two years old. I’m glad you felt the love–and always felt that your mother loved you. ❤️

What an amazing and spiritual memory to have….and especially to see your mother in such light and recognize that early her love for you. I am so very glad you had her love as a source of stability in your life!
The haiku is the perfect accompaniment.
Thank you so much for sharing!

This is fascinating! I thought you must be describing a younger sibling at first. I am pleased your mother provided stability in difficult times.

What an unusual memory! There are so many things that are beyond our knowledge about such happenings….documented experiences of remembering past lives, etc. What a comforting memory for you! I loved reading about it.

I do love the realization of self as such an out of body experience… it must have been strengthened by your mother’s affection.
