A Letter to Bella

Bella- May 2020

Dearest Bella,
I still remember your beautiful face
and I often wonder why you chose to grace
My humble life with a precious gift from above
for you taught me again what it is to love
I know you chose me for a reason,
without doubt all souls have a season
But yours left an indelible mark
upon this battle scarred heart
And I’ll not ever in my lifetime forget
nor will I have any regrets
For you came to me in my moment of need,
even though you made my tender soul bleed
I am grateful you chose me to be the one you would teach
that death is not the end but a setting free

  1. This is such a stunning, stunning tribute to Bella! One that moved me deeply. Especially resonate with; “death is not the end but a setting free.” Yes! Thank you so much for writing to the prompt, Linda 💝💝

  2. What a beautifully penned letter, and what a marvellous friend Bella must have been! I would love to have a pet or resident owl! I like the way you used couplets but varied the rhyme scheme so it never sounds monotonous.

  3. This is so lovely, Linda. Bella did come with a message, and the gift of her visit to you touched so many of our hearts. I cried when she died, and I know you shed many tears as well. But such an honour, that she chose you to entrust her dying to.
