Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
Pain does this to a body-
pushes you to the brink
surrounds you in deceptive arms
making you believe
that it always was and always will be here
washing you up on a rusty shore
anchored by the weight of its magnitude
and there you sit, buried
in quicksand thoughts and shifting stone
Waiting for the next blinding wave
praying it will not be as intense as the last
Then one day you awaken
from the internal raging shitstorm
your body drenched in salty sweat
from the incessant fighting
preparing for the next tumultuous tide
You take a ragged breath, waiting
and realize your inner sea is calm
and bright and clear and blue as you
feel the warmth of healing sunlight on your face
for grey clouds have moved on and gone is the haze

Pain is a powerful force when we face it head on! Your poem is full of those miseries but also the strength of overcoming. Beautiful poetry my friend? Hoping with each new day you are feeling better and better! 💖

Carrie- thank you for your thoughtful words. And yes, I am getting there. This surgery and the pain that accompanied it has been so much worse than the breast cancer surgery. For a while there, I was consumed by it. It felt good to put words to paper again.

this should be written on the walls of a pain clinic – so well observed (and coming from the personal!)
“buried
in quicksand thoughts and shifting stone ”
Am also struck by “ragged breath”

I resonate with the fear that when pain comes, it will last forever. I get alarmed when it rears up, worried it will never stop, too. Such a relief when it eases up. Glad you are on the mend. Lovely to see you writing through it all.

Pain will get your attention, sometimes to the exclusion of all else. And then, just its absence feels like pure pleasure. I’m glad you’re on the mend.

Poetry as therapy, as a way to lessen emotional / physical pain …. you do this beautifully. I could not feel more relief knowing you are coming thru it.

Lynda, so glad you are on the other side of it. Pain does mess with your peace of mind in a big way, not to mention the physical side of it.

I have messed with a broken right big toe since mid February, six weeks then wearing a boot, next keeping it straight with a stiff souled sandal. Now I hope the gray clouds are moving, another Xray next week may give some light to its healing or not. You have been reading my mind?
