#Haibun: The Path I Walk

I am always filled with apprehension this time of year. Even though I love fall and all the wonderful joys it brings, the season still fills me with dread.
The reason for my apprehension is one many women can sympathize with. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, and when it comes time for my annual bloodwork, I fear the worst outcome. Every ache, every pain grows and exacerbates my apprehension the cancer has returned.
I try to control my unwarranted panic but at times it overwhelms my positive outlook.

autumn leaves falling
littering the path I walk
drifting down in death

  4. it’s a difficult time … I had my double mastectomy in 2012 but as I lived in India the regular checkups were not done and frankly I feel blessed I wasn’t subjected to all that tension! Take care and expect the best, it does help 🙂
