In The Distance

From far in the distance
Crashing waves careen
On a starlit rocky shore-

His lantern lights the path
through rustling grass

And shifting sands
Down to the ocean’s floor,

For he hears the call of sirens
Bewitching his lonesome heart
‘Come and suffer nevermore.’

  1. Ohhhhh this is bewitching! Mysterious, romantic, mythical. LOVE they way you’ve used the word! and really like the illustration you’ve used as well!

  2. Lovely poem of sad enchantment, Linda. You’ve told an entire story of loneliness and depression.

It’s sad that Van Morrison has become a crazy conspiracy-spouting guy.

  3. I liked the poem but got a little confused with the closing. Is one bewitched “evermore” or “nevermore”. Was he bewitched once or more before?

Courting danger for the fulfillment of a longing is an adventure in itself. Wonderfully done LInda!
