The Gift

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”
― David Richo

Some days are better than others and I often wonder why

yesterday was agony and today- barely a sigh

And when relief from this darkness arrives

I ‘m grateful I’m here and still alive

To experience these intense lows and highs

For without the lows that happen in life

and along with them the inevitable strife

How would I recognize joy when it comes

cloaked in the shadow of pain’s disguise?

  2. The rhythm and rhyme of this poem emphasise the message, Linda. I too have some better days than others, and agree that:
‘…without the lows that happen in life
and along with them the inevitable strife
How would I recognize joy when it comes…?’

  3. For without the lows that happen in life

Indeed, but it’s still hard to deal with the lows… and the uneven of distribution of lows among human beings gives me pause, Linda…

A gorgeous poem ~ thank you for sharing.

    Much love,
    David

  4. Love this one Linda for it makes us grateful of what we have. I have never appreciated summer so much, until I experienced our long winters. The highs of our lives, are precious, after the lows & darkness.
