Maladroit Souls

The souls of those with self- inflicted wounds
whose cries in the black night fall in silence
searching for an end to their awkward pain
stumbling, tumbling, falling ~
defeated, they give in ~
to the cloud of darkness
plaguing their distorted, contorted mind
leaving behind ~
those they loved and adored who will never
be able to rest or comprehend
for theirs are the innocent hearts
who will pay the ultimate cost
of living the rest of their lives
with clumsy unanswered questions of
Why, Why, Why forever.

I cannot really understand suicide… so often I think it’s based on a lack of understanding that the people around care much more than they show.

I will never understand it, although my life has been touched by it on quite a few occasions. And some were very close and dear. Yesterday, we attended a memorial service for someone who had ended their life. The act leaves behind such devastation.

Yes, they commit suicide to end their pain, but leave a legacy of pain for their loved ones to carry. It is so sad.

So very true. The pain ended by the suicide passes to those who are left behind and really never leaves them. A thoughtful poem!

So sad and so true, Linda. It is often those they loved and adored who drive them to those self- inflicted wounds, because they misunderstand or don’t even try to understand, until it’s too late to ask why.

I sometimes wonder if they had only stop to contemplate the untold pain and anguish that would linger-they still have done it? Eloquent.

…a brief moment of giving in to the demons and pain… it is a hard fight, for sure. It is hard for those who love a person who commits suicide – if only the person knew how much pain they will cause – but that’s the crux of the matter – the person often thinks that by taking their life they are not causing any more pain. What a vicious circle.

I once met a psychiatrist who opined that suicide is always an act of aggression – against someone in the person’s life. I don’t agree that that is always the case, but I think it sometimes is … thinking of particular ones I’ve known.

Suicide is a terrible thing for everyone it touches. Making sense of it is almost impossible. It seems to leave everyone feeling hurt, bewildered, and lost.

The pain of suicide is like a black hole, pulling everything in it’s monstrous orbit. And there’s no sense to be found in its cold center.
