Longing

“Hark, now hear the sailors cry,

Smell the sea, and feel the sky,

Let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic. Into the Mystic”
― Van Morrison, Lit Up Inside: Selected Lyrics

I long to be next to the sea
as autumn breeze whispers through trees
and shadows dance with falling leaves

I long to breath the salty air
with toes in sand going nowhere
as shore birds take flight, soaring free

I long to feel crisp chill of fall
wrapped tight in my blue tattered shawl
while listening to precious peace

I long to dream with windows wide
covered head to toe, here I’ll hide
in your arms where no one can see

The Brine of Summertime

Tuscan Melons

Life is a thump ripe melon, so sweet and such a mess.- Greg Brown

There’s nothing sweeter than tuscan cantaloupe
in late summer’s bloom while a fiery setting sun
illuminates a retreating turquoise sky

We sip on bold red wine, tasting fruit bursting
with sticky juices, blending with the salty brine
of prosciutto wrapped around each luscious slice

dVerse Poets Pub: Poetics Always in Season

In Dappled Daylight

“savor

with me

the lushness

of a lingering sleep…

and last night’s

dream.”

― Sanober Khan, Turquoise Silence

In dappled daylight~
where fallen leaves
mingle with velvet moss

Here, time is soft~
lingering in radiant warmth
of a gilded setting sun

Heartbeat in harmony~
with every inhale
healing cleansing breaths

This restless spirit slows~
amidst nature’s sweet sounds
~Panacea for my soul

dVerse Poets Pub: Quadrille #136 Let’s Linger

God’s Whisper

Kiara moved with lionlike grace through the crowd gathered round to hear their warlord speak. Continuing west, she stopped mid-stride when she heard a whisper. “So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm?”
Where was it coming from? The whisper became clearer as she moved towards the setting sun. The sky undulated with colors painting the lush landscape.
She closed her eyes, isolating the voice. A warm hand touched her neck where her heart was beating. Her pulse raced, as she looked up into deep golden-flecked eyes. His hair hung to his shoulders and she knew he was an elder by the markings above his right eye.
“You’ve heard me. Come; we must leave before the sacred blood rite. There are enemies among us and our leader is a fool. Those who drink from the chalice of blood will die.”

Come join us at dVerse where Ingrid has chosen a line for us to use from the The Chimney Sweeper, a poem by William Blake. The Line is “So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm.”

Frigid Twilight

In weathered sheaves of light
before gnarled hands can rest
silver strands flow through as
painful memories come to mind

With each tarnished grey knot
spiteful deeds and dead lovers cry
remorseful tears roll down a lined face
frozen in songs of frigid twilight

Pale ghosts of the past haunt her
tormenting her languid soul
whispering for final retribution
for all transgressions done

Murder of Crows

They share dark dreams and visceral prose
While above a murder of screeching crows
Binds their souls to scorching sin town

Driving a rusty winged cadillac
As they slip out the back Jack
When they can’t pay the rent
On their one room dirt shack
That looks down from the escarpment to Hell

Heading west to the famous Fremont Hotel
Where shrimp cocktails are still ninety-nine cents
And they bet their last dime on black 29
In the hopes of scoring a big win

Queen of the Night

On my walk: Mesa, AZ

Queen of the Night cactus blooms
under early morning half-gone moon

Zealous honeybees at dawn wander
In tender- throated petal valleys
Drinking virgin dew-drenched nectar
Gathering golden pollen powder
Before brutal August sun destroys
Palest snow-white fragile flowers
