The wee ones had never seen a bird, or heard their lilting songs. But Claire remembers well. Brilliant feathers, in all the colors of the rainbow. Haunting melodies that carried on the wind night and day. And then, they were gone, vanished in thin air, and the world fell silent.

Carpe Diem’s Light Retreat 2019

I often get odd questions by others who don’t understand,
how can you live in the desert where the temperatures climb
Isn’t it only rattlesnakes and cactus, a dry barren wasteland?
but for me the arid heat stirs my blood, is incredibly sublime
The vast cerulean skies are the bluest of blues
and the hues of the landscape are in my tanning skin
this sprawling terrain on my soul is forever tattooed
to leave it now and go would be a mortal sin
I breathe in the monsoons racing across the land
I hear the boom of storm crackling thunder
I see the fingers of lightning like God’s hand
tearing the turbulent dusty skies asunder
I drink the cool water to ease my soul’s thirst
but no sooner have I swallowed, I long for more
Loving a land so much my heart could burst
my life is now here in this place I adore
I plant the seeds of herbs and wildflowers waiting to see
the cracking of husk the breaking open of hard shell
sending brilliant green sprouts at last breaking free
I am the seeds and the seeds are me, for we both dwell
In this magnificent desert, where our hearts will forever be

Hidden deep in the mysterious woods
far from prying eyes
trolls stand watch over the lilliputian people
forever watching the skies
for in this land there be fire-breathing dragons
whose dark shadows hover above
hoping to snatch a tasty fairy a delicacy they love
