rust

Painting by Surrealist Artist Alexandra Dillon

“But when oxidation nibbles more slowly – more delicately, like a tortoise – at the world around us, without a flame, we call it rust and we sometimes scarcely notice as it goes about its business consuming everything from hairpins to whole civilizations.”

― Alan Bradley, A Red Herring Without Mustard

Rusting palm
foreseeing a bleak future
the only fortune
a ring on her finger
wasting days and nights
years dissolving into red dust
without the comfort
of a warm hand to hold
for only with
these eyes locked on another
can she love from afar
without touching

A generation
devoid of hugs, decaying

Path to Peace

“People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”  ― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

What lies beneath the path ahead
Though littered with the fallen
Is a brighter more hopeful future
If only we learn to bear
Witness to the untold haunting stories
Buried deep within this tainted worship
Of absolute power and greed

And once we are brave enough to uncover
That which has been the true dis-ease
Then will we begin to believe in others
And this poisoned state we are currently in
Will wither, die and with finality end
Leaving us to begin again
To create lasting positive change

#Gogyohka: Justice

“Where there is love there is life.”

― Mahatma Gandhi

What color is justice
Is it brown, black, white, red or yellow?
Is it the brilliant cobalt of a Blue Jay’s wing?
Or the heart breaking hues of a blush morning sky?
Justice is a vivid kaleidoscope of love

And Justice for All

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” -Martin Luther King Jr

How dare I, a white woman- presume
To know how it feels in your black skin
And walk with fear as a constant companion
Reviled for your rich heritage some may not understand
Not seen for the American, the human being you are

There are those who refuse to acknowledge you or your pain
Yet the pledge of this country says “And Justice for All”
And though one evil man kneeled, eyes filled with hate
As you cried out- ‘Please, I can’t breathe’
Aren’t we all to blame for the state we are in?

When will we see your goodness, your truth
And not the shade of your skin?

A LONG TIME COMIN’

And jack boot rain bore down in brutal disgrace
And the people cried out in anguish for justice, for release
And the demons of grief filled the once empty streets
As frustration stormed and raged in the face of bitter hate
It’s been a long time comin’ Lord, and there is no end in sight
For we are in our darkest hours fighting this desperate fight
Without a strong leader to guide us to the healing light
Only love for one another will save us from our doomed plight

Slip Away

BB King- Wikimedia Commons

Caught up in life’s slip stream
Pulling me along
Floating on this breeze
Humming a bluesy song
Lord, let me slip away today
Wrapped in your loving arms
Help me find peace and forget
The world and all its poisoned charms
Tempting me wrong
