Sweet Sleep of Death

As I wander this sandy rock littered shore
gentle waves lap between dark shadows and stones,
a revelation overcomes, a knowing deep in my soul
for light is falling fast now between dusk and dawn.

Your time is coming my dear friend, though too soon
as your battle scarred warrior soul braces
for that one last glimpse of this beautiful earth
where you’ve lived your life with purpose and worth.

Take a long exhausted breath, exhale and let
sweet sleep of death overcome; at last all pain will be gone
and your beautiful soul in peace, will rest.

  2. Linda, I add my prayers to yours and Sue’s. I am deeply touched by your love for your friend and the tenderness and gentleness of it. To see in this poem the bond of your friendship has opened me to joy and tears.
