Carnival Games

-Linda Lee Lyberg

You’ve gone on with your life in a spectacular manner
As if I were only a minor distraction,
So I am raising my hands, waving my white banner
And giving up this cruel caper of attraction.

You’ll no longer have me to play
In your silly cat and mouse game
For now, today I am walking away
And you only have yourself to blame.
So continue to voice your mindless claims
Try to convince yourself it’s all in jest
Someday you’ll hang your head in shame
For you will have lost the one you loved best.
