Child Of God
– Linda Lee Lyberg
In truth, you cannot own a child of God
Even if they appear to be perfection
In truth, all people and souls are flawed .
One look and you are completely awed
For they are his divine conception
In truth, you cannot own a child of God.
Their shoulders, strong and broad
May be your singular perception
In truth, all people and souls are flawed .
And though you may want to laud
That you were part of their inception
In truth, you cannot own a child of God.
You may find their color of skin odd
And that of a curious exception
In truth, all people and souls are flawed .
If you think them an inferior fraud
That is your moral deception
In truth, you cannot own a child of God
In truth, all people and souls are flawed .

Authors Note: I recently saw Free State of Jones and the line- You cannot own a child of God really stayed with me. This is a villanelle with a bit of a twist.
