Blight of Day

-Linda Lee Lyberg

Why must day’s break intrude
Into our sacred love’s room
Dawn’s light lurking étude
The tear in night eschewed

I refuse to turn away
In the harsh morning light
We can hold the sun at bay
And ignore the day’s blight

Let’s make love until moon
Returns to an evening sky
For darling, much too soon
Love’s end is looming nigh

Dawn must come tomorrow
Forthwith our love severed
Amid a river of deep sorrow
We’ll say good-bye forever
