Broken Wing

She used to sway and dance
on the water’s grassy shore
where the waves ever lap
singing their lulling chord.

She flew among bright stars
their reflection undulating
on waves of the azure ocean
their beauty never abating.

And then one day a crack
sounded from dark skies
sending her soul careening
leaving her to wonder why.

As she lay dying in her watery grave
she remembers how once she swayed
and now with only one wing to unfurl
she soars to the light, as her life fades.
