Into The Fire

The space always is and in this space I am.*
I breath this air surrounding me, holding tight
Living in my head with my fantasies.
I am what I have, and I will have naught more
than these sweet longings of a life that takes me
through eternity with nothing/no one
Ever forgotten or tainted with aging bitterness.
Someday, I will pull all my recollections to the fore
lay them bare before myself, for I am my only judge
In a one room cabin at night I’ll consign
photos, all tentative memories to the fire.**
Author’s Note: Today Amaya inspires with a prompt at
dVerse where we are to take a quote from a book to start and another to end.
*I start the poem with a quote on page 66 of Deepak Chopra’s book “Everyday Immortality”
** I end the poem with lines from a Jim Harrison poem ” Looking Forward to Age.”

Linda, you’re tapping into what is so important and really relevant to today when we are especially bound to our pasts by constant reminders on social media of who we once were. But our pasts in our faces are pulling us down, holding us back from ascending into beings we were meant to be. Face-first plummet. It’s both brave and essential to burn it all at some point. Thank you!

Your poem spoke to me as I didn’t know either of the quotes, so it was fresh.I love the way you evoke the space where your soul energy resides, Linda, and the lines:
‘I am what I have, and I will have naught more
than these sweet longings of a life that takes me
through eternity with nothing/no one’.

to forgive… to forget… no bitterness, a baptism by a holy fire, burned but not consumed, transformed rather? So well done. Thank you.
