Faith in Dying

“It is the burden of life to be many ages

without seeing the end of time.”- Jim Harrison

When hot young blood courses through our veins
we never ponder there will be an end and then
the fragility of life brings an epiphany

The time of reckoning when life is almost done
no longer skipping and singing in bright golden sun
but decrepit and old with the grave beckoning

A sordid breeze of ancient heralds Azrael’s presence
no point in defying or hiding, for he will never fail
standing watch, awaiting the last breath
while we haven’t a clue of what the future will entail

All we have in the dying
hope holding onto faith
our souls will be wandering free
