Gravity

“The hardest part is when the river
is too swift and goes underground for days on end”

~Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason

My soul the river rushing over stones
of memories buried in sand
some more grand and beautiful
breathless times remembering
glistening jewels of a colorful life.

Treasures held with reverent love
smoother with the water’s flow
the passing of time does heal
and with greatest care reveal
the truest meaning of purpose.

Then there are those jagged stones
shards of cold graying lead
that sits in trembling hands,
weighing your heart down
with the gravity of what they did.

It’s in those moments when you are sinking
and your soul is choking for breath
you turn to those smooth precious gems
that comfort and throw aside the rest.

  1. Great minds,Linda! Our poems have the same key words..moments, purpose, comfort. I love how we reach for those precious gems when the going gets hard. A lovely, lovely write😊
