#Tanka: Freedom

beauty unsurpassed
she stands, through the test of time

beacon for oppressed
freedom, her word of honor
promise made, never broken

Author’s Note: Although this was written for the prompt, my heart is saddened by what I see happening in our country. I want to believe in the words I’ve written, but I feel we have strayed from the very foundations this country was based on. I can’t bear to watch the news these days.
