Thoughts From A Bird

“Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.” – Rabindranath Tagore
I took a stroll round the lake one lovely summer’s eve
lost in thoughts of heartbreak and why you chose to leave

As I pondered on the words you last spoke in haste
came fluttering on the perfumed air, a tiny yellow bird
to my great surprise, he trills the answers I seek

‘We may not ever know what misery others are in
many souls cry alone, wanting never to worry
until you’ve lived in fragile bones and tender skin
you’ll never comprehend anguished inner flurries

So best to send them love wherever they may be
and in this simple way, set their broken soul free.’

And with these words he crooned softly to me
at last my burdened heart was at peace and eased.
