She’s lovely he said, a precious babe
she’s already smiling look at that face
born on Friday so she’ll be loving and giving
With those brown eyes that twinkle and beam
and smooth skin like rich milk cream
all those strawberry curls, oh my, what a dream!
Let’s call her Linda, in Spanish it means
beautiful, soft, and tender
with hopes she’ll live up to her name
and with grace, always remembered

d’Verse Poetics: What’s in a Name?
I love it! I love the meaning behind names and little superstitions such “born on this day, they’ll be that way.”

I love how you weaved in the loving parents into this… naming a child should be a gift.

like naming the princess born into their lives, tender and soft she did become and still is – your name describes your perfectly, your parents were certainly blessed on the day you were born

Thank you Gina. The reason I know the story is because of my mom. She and my dad divorced when I was two. Sometimes life is harsh.

I am sorry to hear that, but I can feel the love you have for both from her narrative too. Lately I have accepted there cannot be joy without pain. Blessings on your sweet heart Linda

I really enjoyed your approach to the prompt, with parents’ perspective. OH my goodness….there is nothing sweeter than strawberry curls. The image was a perfect enhancement to your poem.

Hey fellow Friday baby! I think we naturally have that TGIF spirit in us;) And I like your name, as it is the same name as my dear mother in-law. And the Spanish pronunciation, “Lee-nda” is my favorite.

Thank you! And it’s the same in French and Swedish too Lee-nda!
