Winter Journey

Source: Monarch Butterfly.com

And now with the cooler weather,
butterflies dance outside my window
stopping to say hello
and feed on desert milkweed
as they make their migratory journey
to their destiny waiting, calling them
Come home for winter is coming,
Come home here to roost
Come home where the dawn light is shining,
Come home to rest in oyamel fir trees.

  1. I’ve aways found migration fascinating be it Monarch butterflies or geese or any other animal that does so. When you think about it, I guess as parents we hope we’ve raised our children to be migratory as well…..always knowing they are welcome to come home again. And….hmmmm….that is what my husband and I do every Thanksgiving when we “migrate” to Chicago for our Thanksgiving family gathering.
