The Story

Looking back, I don’t know why I was surprised every time love started or ended, because all things beautiful never last.
There were the years when he wrapped his arms around my heart to keep me safe from the world but now, it’s all gone. What’s left are the memories of strength and a whisper of warm breath on my cheek.
We had no idea the end was coming, or that our time together was growing shorter with each passing day. If either of us would be the one to go first I always thought it would be me.
The universe works in mysterious ways I’ll never fathom. There are times it leaves the weak and broken. It is not always a question of survival of the fittest but survival due to ability, for who should remain to tell the story but a poet?

  2. Beautifully written. I think the one who is left has the much harder path to trod.

  3. A sad story, Linda. It’s true that all things beautiful never last and, especially in the current climate, we must make the most of things.
